Photo by Mandilee Hecht A local resident recently celebrated 90 years of life, surrounded by her friends and family. Alice Schulz, of Saginaw, celebrated her nine decades on her birthday, Monday, Sept. 10 at Great Lakes Rehab Center, 4180 Tittabawassee Road, where she resides.

The 90-year-old was surrounded by nearly a dozen friends and family. The occasion was honored with flowers, balloons and cake.

According to the couple’s family, Alice and her husband Charles A. Schulz, 93, are both very witty.

During Alice’s birthday celebration, Charles was able to garner a laugh by leaning in and whispering to his wife, “you’re getting old,” as family finished singing her birthday song.

Alice worked at Severance Tools, formerly in Saginaw, for 18 years. She also volunteered 10 years for the Red Cross Blood Mobile and had a very lucrative home-business with Charles that measured, designed and created custom, handmade draperies and curtains.

She enjoyed playing organ, playing at her church for 20 years. She also liked to garden and ski.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1928 and she and Charles have been married for 21 years. She had six stepchildren, and the couple had four nieces and 12 nephews.

Her husband, Charles was also honored recently. The 93-year-old received the title of Veteran of the Month by the Sons of American Legion Post 32, and was honored through a recent feature article printed by the Wayne Westland Observer.
