Heritage blanks Saginaw, 27-0 in gridiron duel

The Hawks scored on their first drive of the game. On second and five from the 37 yard line, Heritage quarterback Keegan Robertson ran the ball 53 yards down to the 10 for a first and goal. After running for a loss and a penalty, the Hawks were pushed back to the 37, but on third down, Robertson completed a pass to Brady Dinninger for the touchdown and the 7-0 lead.

The two teams both went scoreless on the next two possessions, with each turning the ball over on downs.

On the Trojans’ next possession, Heritage’s Keason Woods came up with the interception to end the Saginaw drive, and give the Hawks the ball at the 23 yard line.

The Hawks then drove down and Nicholas Coppolino hit a 22 yard field goal for the 10-0 advantage.

Coppolino also kicked a 23 yarder on the Hawks’ first drive of the second quarter to make it 13-0.

Photo by Lamont Lenar Saginaw drove to midfield and attempted a deep pass with under 10 seconds remaining in the half, but Heritage’s Antonio Patman went up and tipped the ball away from the Saginaw receiver. The ball went back and was caught by Trevor Culpepper for the interception.

The Hawks opened with the ball in the third quarter, drove down and scored with Robertson running the ball in from the two yard line to go up 20-0.

Saginaw went three and out on its next drive, punting. The Trojans pinned the Hawks back at their own 12.

Heritage then drove down to the Saginaw 27 yard line, where Robertson connected with Woods in the end zone for the touchdown and the 27-0 win.

Photo by Lamont Lenar Heritage coach Matt Peterson said about the defense shutting out the Trojans, “The kids executed and played physical.” He also said the team ran the ball well with 239 rushing in the game.

For Heritage, Quarterback Keegan Robertson threw for 89 yards with two TDs and ran for 167 yards and a score. Marcus Murphy ran for 50 yards. Brady Dinninger caught two passes for 62 yards with a touchdown. On defense, Logan Zollinger had six tackles. Woods and Culpepper each had an interception. Heritage quarterback Keegan Robertson threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more in the Hawks’ Sept. 7 win over Saginaw.
