Art @ the Andersen fall show features Saginaw Area Watermedia Artists

SAGINAW – The Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission will open its Art @ the Andersen 2018 Fall Show with an exhibition featuring works by members of the Saginaw Area Watermedia Artists (SAWA). The show will be on display from Oct. 2 - 11 at the Andersen Enrichment Center in Saginaw’s Celebration Square, 120 Ezra Rust Dr. The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Exhibition hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Exhibition and reception are both free to the public.

The exhibition, entitled “Celebration,” will highlight more than 60 original works in watercolor, acrylic and batik by SAWA member artists. From subtle and muted to vibrant and lively, each artist has interpreted this year’s theme, in recognition of the Andersen Enrichment Center’s 25th Anniversary, in their own unique way to produce a distinctive composition.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view “Color, Color, Color! Artwork and Calligraphy by Jim Fives,” featuring a series of colorful and vibrant works depicting the diversity of Fives’ career as an artist and sign painter. Included in the show are select entries from Art Prize Grand Rapids and the Detroit Scarab Club Gold Medal Exhibition.

The Saginaw Area Watermedia Artists is a non-profit organization comprised of mid-Michigan area artists, which works to promote the fine art of painting in mediums of watercolor and acrylics. To support art education in the schools, each year SAWA gives a community award to an area school. The award is used for the purchase of much needed art supplies.

Art @ the Andersen is made possible with the support of the Frances Goll Mills Fund and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. This project has been established by the Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission to give artists in the Great Lakes Bay Region an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.
