Two-vehicle crash in Thomas Twp. results in fatality

A traffic incident on Sunday, Oct. 7 resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the Tittabawassee Township Police Department, a twovehicle traffic accident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. on the corner of Tittabawassee and Gleaner roads in Thomas Township.

Tittabawassee Township officers, along with Saginaw County Sheriff deputies, Richland Township officers, Thomas Township officers and Saginaw Township officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Tittabawassee and N. Gleaner Roads, with the preliminary investigation conducted by officers and members of the Saginaw County Crash Investigation Team.

The team indicated a southbound vehicle, driven by a Rochester Hills resident, was traveling on Gleaner Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign, and struck a westbound vehicle.

A 53-year-old female, of Freeland, was the front-seat passenger in the westbound vehicle driven by her husband; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment, according to Officer Brian Berg of the Tittabawassee Township Police Department.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, and it was noted an autopsy will be conducted at a later date.

The Saginaw County Sheriff Department Auxiliary Unit provided support at the scene.

Tittabawassee police said the incident is still under investigation and upon conclusion, it will be forwarded to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Police have not released the deceased victim’s name at this time.
