Swan Valley football finishes with 9-0 record

The Swan Valley football team completed its 9-0 undefeated regular season on Friday, Oct. 19, with a 41-20 win over St. Johns. The Vikings will host Howard City Tri-County this Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.

Panthers claw Birch Run, 26-13 in finale

The Nouvel Catholic Central football team beat Birch Run 26-13 in its final game of the regular season to finish 6-3. The Panthers will travel to Harbor Beach for their first round playoff matchup this Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.

Hawks fall to Oilers in final game of the season

The Heritage football team lost its final game of the season, 28-14 to undefeated Mt. Pleasant on Friday, Oct. 19.

Swan Valley spikers win Pinny tourney

The Swan Valley volleyball team won the Pinconning Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20. In pool play, the Vikings split with Gaylord 25-19, 15-25, beat Ogemaw Heights 25-16, 25-18, and lost to Beaverton 16-25, 20-25. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Gaylord 25-19, 25-18. In the semifinals, they beat Beaverton 23-25, 26-24, 21-19. And in the finals, they took Pinconning 25-19, 22-25, 15-12.

Natalie Kuhn led the team with 46 kills, 14 digs, three aces, and three solo blocks. Hallie McIntyre added 39 kills, 40 digs, 35 service points, two solo blocks, and five set assists. Jordan DeLisle had 28 kills, 12 digs, three solo blocks, and two set assists. Bridget Raedy added 58 digs, 11 kills, five aces, and four set assists. Mallory Eurich had 60 digs, one kill, two aces, and two set assists. Ellie MacDonald had 24 digs, three aces, and 26 service points. Anna Dornseifer had 13 digs and one ace. Rachel DuRussel had three digs, one solo block, and three set assists. Rachel Joslyn had eight kills and 18 digs. Claire Bierlein had seven kills, 25 digs, three aces, two solo blocks, and 123 set assists.

Heritage cross country boys win SVL title

The Heritage boys’ cross country team was the Saginaw Valley League North and overall champion at the league championship meet on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Heritage coach Gary Loubert was named the boys’ coach of the year. Runners Jacob McDowell, and Brady Neumann, were named first team all-conference. Tyler Lozano, Jacob Faerber and Justin Bentancur earned second team honors.

The Heritage girls’ cross country team placed sixth at the meet, with Emma Banning named first team all-conference. Chloe Fry earned honorable mention.

Heritage swimmers down Powers in Pink Out meet

The Heritage girls swim team defeated Flint Powers 103-77 in its Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness meet on Thursday, Oct. 18. The Hawks won nine events: 200 freestyle, Hannah Fleming, 2:03.36; 200 individual medley, Ariana Shokoohi, 2:18.47; 50 freestyle, Ella Banning, :26.92; 100 freestyle, Hannah Fleming, :56.66; 500 freestyle, Ariana Shokoohi, 5:32.64; 200 freestyle relay, Ariana Shokoohi, Hannah Fleming, Emma Inman, and Jean Cho; 100 backstroke, Ella Banning; 100 breaststroke, Makenzie Collier, 1:25.19; 400 freestyle relay, Ariana Shokoohi, Hannah Fleming , Ella Banning Emma Inman, 3:55.03.

Heritage soccer team bows to Dow in district semis

The Heritage boys’ soccer team lost to Midland Dow 1-0 in the district semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Ethan Concannon and Sam West were named first team all-conference for Heritage. Kyler Brown was named second team, with Santino Hernandez and Adam Pape earning honorable mentions.
